Drumgoon ladie put in a very good performance this morning, but just fell a little short against a very good Mullahoran side. Catherine Ahearne was brilliant once again for the girls, and was very bravely out in front of her markers, to win every ball that came her way. Mullahoran playing in their first Intermediate championship game since winning the title in 2014 started life in the second division for the first time in 8 years. The home side entered the game full of confidence after a hard fought one goal win over St. Kilians in the opening round the week previous but were up against a strong team who played three divisions above them the league . Catherine Ahearne , who was excellent the week previous , scored the first point of the game 2 minutes in . A free from Megan McKeogh started Mullahoran’s scoring as Mona Sheridan attacked from the half back line to score the second . A point from Teresa McCann equalized the sides once again . However , McCann’s point was her sides last for 20 minutes as the visitors kicked into gear and scored 3-06 in quick succession . McKeogh added her second before Nicole Shiels hit the net for her sides , opening goal in the 11th minute . 2 minutes later Geraldine Sheridan hit the net for their second before Annie Deneher followed this up moments later with a third . Points from Sheridan and Deneher put Mullahoran into a strong lead . Jordan Crowe got a crucial goal for her side in the 26th minute and a point from Crowe at the brink of half time left the score line 3-06 to 1-03 at halftime . Crowe and Ahearne pointed after the restart for the hosts , but these were either side of a Geraldine Sheridan goal in the 5th minute . Megan Moynagh , Sarah Clarke and McCann added a point apiece to reduce the deficit . Maria Mussi got her name on the scoresheet with a well – executed point before the home side added more scores as Clarke tapped over another and Ahearne hit double . As the game went deep into stoppage time Geraldine Sheirdan scored her hattrick goal to finish off good performance for her team ahead of next weeks round 3 game against St. Kilian’s.
