Drumgoon retain Intermediate status
Drumgoon 2-08 Belturbet 1-08
In a wet and wind swept Drumalee, Drumgoon deservedly retained their Intermediate status by virtue of a hard fought win over Belturbet. Playing against the wind, Belturbet got off to a whirlwind start with a point from a free by Enda Henry and a goal from Sean Og Lawlor. Drumgoon opened their account with a well taken free from their excellent free taker Dean Carroll, who later went on to score 5 points in the game. The Drumgoon comeback continued when corner forward Aogan Farrell, expertly shot to the net. The exchanges were even up to break and at half time the sides went in level 1 – 05 each. Playing against the wind, Drumgoon came out much the better side in the second half. Darren Lavery and Conal Farrell led the way with trojan work from midfield. A brilliant point from play by Dean Carroll was followed by a well taken goal by Conal Farrell, who shot to the right hand corner of the net, giving the keeper no chance. The Moynagh brothers worked their socks off as the broke up attack after attack and set up brothers Paddy Smith and Shane Smith for good points. In the dying moments of the game with Belturbet applying tremendous pressure in search of an equalising goal, Darragh Lynch made an exceptional save in the square and expertly cleared his lines, much to the delight of the large Drumgoon support.
