Drumgoon collect their first points of the season. 18/4/2010

Senior Division 2 league Drumgoon 0 - 12, Knockbride 1 - 08
Played in perfect conditions on Boyle Park, Drumgoon just about deserved to shade this encounter, albeit by the narrowest of margins.
Drumgoon got off to the better start but after that it was nip and tuck for the hour as the sides exchanged point for point throughout the game. With Jim Mc Nally and Michael Mc Donald shading it at midfield the Drumgoon forwards started with plenty of possession. First on the scoreboard was an excellent long range point from an in form Niall Fortune. After good work in defense by Michael Hannon, Keith Fannin, raced up the left hand side and skillfully shot over the bar.
Another Drumgoon attack resulted in a point from Paddy Mc Cabe. Knockbride then struck back when the evergreen Peter Reilly, cleverly set up Adam Traynor, for a well taken goal, and bring the sides level. Drumgoon edged in front again when Paddy Mc Cabe coolly slotted over a well taken free. Adam Traynor was in devastating form for Knockbride and he kicked two more good points to give his side the lead. Drumgoon struck back through Niall Fortune to level the scores level at half time. The second half continued in a similar vein, with the corner forwards dominating. Drumgoon got their noses in front through two well taken frees by Paddy Mc Cabe.
However Knockbride were determined to win this game and points from Peter Reilly and Raphael Rogers brought the sides level again. Drumgoon restored their lead when the youthful full forward, making his senior debut, Conor Moynagh, shot over the 50 meters line. Good work by Ollie Mulvey set up Adam Traynor for two more points and much to the delight of the large crowd, Knockbride took a one point lead. Drumgoon were lucky that they had Niall Fortune back in their ranks as he not alone shot over the leveling point but topped it up immediately after with another well taken point and restored Drumgoon's lead. Drumgoon made a number of positional changes with Conor Moynagh moving back into defence and Keith Fannin moving up into attack.
Keith won a good ball near the corner flag and was brought to the ground. Referee Gerry Sheridan has no hesitation in awarding a difficult free in from out close to the side line. Paddy Mc Cabe coolly slotted over the resultant free to edge Drumgoon in front once more. The final few minutes were feverously contested but neither side managed to register another score.
Best for Drumgoon were Michel Hannon, Keith Fannin, Jim Mc Nally, Conor Moynagh and Niall Fortune. Best for Knockbride were Adam Traynor, David Traynor, |Dermott O' Brien, Ollie Mulvey and Niall O' Reilly.

Paddy Fox Tournament, 14/3/2010, Drumgoon 2 - 09 Latton 2 - 11
Drumgoon put in a gallant performance on Boyle Park on Sunday last and just failed to wrest the Paddy Fox cup from their next door neighbours, Latton. Drumgoon finished the game with a flurry and went agonisingly close on several occasions in getting the vital score, but in the end Latton hung on to retain the cup for yet another year.
Playing with a strong wind, Latton ran into an early lead and had 4 points on the board before Paddy Mc Cabe opened the scoring for Drumgoon. In the second half with the wind on their backs and the introduction of Jim Mc Nally and Michael Hannon, seen Drumgoon back in the driving seat. Goals from Michael Mc Donald and Shane Mc Gorry, brough them right back into contention. The large crowd were now on their toes as Paddy Mc Cabe scored 4 points in a row to reduce the margin. However a good atttack by Latton resulted in full forward Hugh Mc Ilroy, getting the all important goal and they ran out deserving winners.

  Minors make good start, 1/3/2010
Minors make it two out of two. The Drumgoon Éire Óg minor team continued their winning ways in the ACFL Minor league on Sunday last with a home win against Ballinagh on a score line of 1:07 to 0:04. In a game that ebbed and flowed, the home team took control from the start with Conor Moynagh securing the early advantage with a fisted point after 30 seconds. The game settled into a keen contest, with Ballinagh threatening the Éire Óg goal on occassion, but the hungry Drumgoon defence, led by team captain Tommy McKitterick held firm, and kept the visitors scoreless in the first half. Meanwhile, Patrick Smith, Ian Craddock and Conor Moynagh continued to add to the Drumgoon tally, ably supported by Declan Smith, to establish a half-time lead of 0:06 to no score. The second half was a more balanced affair. Ballinagh struck a brace of points in the opening minutes to open their account, but it was Drumgoon who could have sealed the win early on when Phelim Shalvey struck a fine shot just to the right of the Ballinagh goal, to leave room for a Ballinagh comeback. the repreive was short lived however, when after 15 minutes of the second period, Martin Fitzpatrick struck to the Ballinagh net to effectively end the contest. To their credit, Ballinagh never stopped contesting the tie, but a resolute performance by Corey Smith in the Drumgoon goal, Mark Murray, Ryan Craddock and Barry Cooney in defence and an impressive work rate from Ronan McDonald, Francis McCabe, Joseph Kelly and Henry Reyburn for Drumgoon stemmed any momentum that Ballinagh tried to build. At the final whistle, Drumgoon led by 1:07 to 0:04 and the squad will now prepare to travel to Drumalee next Sunday at 2pm for their next encounter.
