Under 21's over second hurdle
Drumgoon 2-06, Drumlane 1 - 08
Drumgoon had Drumlane as visitors to Boyle Park on a sunny sunday evening last and deservedly progressed to the next round, albeit by the narrowest of margins. With the pitch in perfect condition, the large crowd were treated to a very enjoyable, open free flowing game. Drumgoon were first on the scoreboard when their "40 yard" man and scorer in chief, Pauric Mc Gorry, pointed a well taken free. This was a lead which Drumgoon would hold to the end. Darragh Seagrave replied with a similar score for Drumlane before a good move started by Cathal Smith ended up with a player making a welcome return to Boyle Park, Tommy O' Brien finishing to the net. Drumgoon stretch their lead when Philip Smith found Shane Smith and Shane colly slotted over. With Eamon Mc Cluskey and James Mc Donald in great form for Drumgoon, Drumlane were finding it hard to break through, but they finally got a break when a high ball into the Drumgoon square ended up in the back of the net, after a defensive slip up. This left Drumgoon going into the break with a 3 point lead on a scoreline of 1 - 4 to 1 - 1. Drumlane opened strongly in the second half and had two points from frees by Darragh Seagrave. Drumgoon then had a goal dis-allowed but soon after their pressure paid off when Shane Smith crossed over from the right and Aogan Farrell was on hand to fist to the net. Drumlane to their credit battled away and a strong run upfield by Dane O' Dowd resulted in a good lang range point from Dane. Points from J.P. Kelly and Ciaran Reilly kept Drumlane in the hunt, while the ever reliable Pauric Mc Gorry pointed every free taking oportunity. The last 5 minutes were keenly contested as Drumlane went in search of an equalising score, however the Drumgoon defence stood strong and deservedly held on to reach the semi-final.

Drumgoon in League Final Drumgoon 1 - 13 Killeshandra 1 - 10
Drumgoon have qualified for the final of the Division 2 league, by virtue of a well deserved win over Killeshandra. Played in lovely autumnal sunshine on Saturday evening last, Drumgoon thoroughly deserved their win as they were the more determined team from start to finish. The foundations of Drumgoon's victory were laid at midfield where Jim Mc Nally and Micheal Mc Donald, both put in a powerhouse performance from start to finish. Drumgoon were first on the scoreboard when an inform Pauric Mc Gorry, slotted over a free from out on left. A powerful drive forward by Michael Mc Donald, found Keith Fannin, who shot over a brilliant point from way out on the right. Killeshandra then struck back and got their reward when Declan Mc Kiernan and Adie Burns shot over two well taken long range points. Michael Hannon was in top class form in the heart of the Drumgoon defence and he also found time to steal forward on a powerful run and after being dragged down, Pauric Mc Gorry shot over the resultant free. Killeshandra retorted immediately through a point from Patrick King. A good clearance from Edward Jackson resulted in a free 40 metres out from the Killeshandra goal on the left and Pauric Mc Gorry's free fell short of the crossbar, but deceived the goalkeeper to drop into the back of the net. This fortuitous score only served to increase the Killeshandra intensity and they were duly rewarded for their play with points from Eamon O' Reilly, Adie Burns and Rory Braiden. Drumgoon responded in kind with a well taken point from Keith Fannin after a mazy run upfield by Edward Gaffney. Good Drumgoon pressure resulted in two points from frees by Pauric Mc Gorry, before a long range speculative lob into the Drumgoon square was finished to the net by Declan Mc Kiernan. The sides went into the break level on a scoreline of 1 - 6 each.
In the second half Drumgoon started the more determined team and soon ran into an early lead. A brilliant long range point from Michael Mc Donald seen Drumgoon regain the lead. With both sets of defences now on top scores were at a premium. Declan Mc Kiernan scored for Killeshandra and then Keith Fannin hit a purple patch for Drumgoon. Keith hit over four unanswered points, two from frees and two from play. The fourth of these points was as good as ever seen scored in Drumalee. With the minimal of room and close to the corner flag, Keith squeezed the ball between the posts. With Drumgoon getting on top Jim Mc Nally drove forward and shot over to extend Drumgoon's lead. As Killeshandra put in a grandstand finish in an attempt to level the game they found Edward Jackson now operating at full back in top form. Edward cleared his lines time after time and found Niall mc Entyre who got Drumgoons final score. Killeshandra laid siege to the Drumgoon goal but saves from Gerry Hughes kept them to a point from Rory Braiden.

Drumgoon 0 - 18 Sherock 4 - 05
Drumgoon had Shercock as visitors on a sun kissed Boyle Park on Saturday evening last and after an enjoyable encounter deservedly emerged with all three points, albeitly by the narrowest of margins.
Played in perfect conditions this was a must win game for both sides, but for very different reasons. Drumgoon were striving to ensure that they were in the League Play offs, while Shercock are hoping to avoid relegation. Drumgoon got off to the perfect start when an in-form Keith Fannin opened the scoring from plat with a superbly executed point. A good flowing upfield movement startesd off by Paul Mc Enroe resulted in Aogan Farrell sweeping the ball over the bar. Form the kick out Keith Fannin won the breaking ball and sung over a brilliant point from way out on the left. Drumgoon were then rocked back when Shercock in almost their first attack, cut open the Drumgoon defence and Damien Mc Intyre drove to the net. Shercock went ahead for the first time when Cathal Reilly shot over. Following a good move Shercock corner forward Shane Mc Phillips pulled on a loose ball and sent low and hard to the net giving the Drumgoon keeper Gerry Hughes no chance between the posts. Drumgoon to their credit battled away big Michael Mc Donald sent over a good long range score before the effervescent Keith Fannin shot over three unanswered points.
Just as it seemed that Drumgoon were getting on top Shercock playing for survival broke through for yet another goal from Shane Mc Philips. Edward Jackson went forward on a good strong run and finished well to level the scoring. Just prior to the break Shercock got their noses in front again as Joseph O' Reilly to leave Shercock leading by a point at half time. The second half started just like the first with Keith Fannin to the fore again and winning every ball that came his way. Keith shot over and after good work in defence by Michael Hannon, his team-mate Edward Gaffney darted forward only to be fouled and Paddy Mc Cabe shot over the resultant free. Drumgoon then hit a purple patch and with Michael Mc Donald and Edward Jackson dominating the middle the forwards got an ample supply of ball. It was that man again Keith Fannin who shot over two points from play and one from a free after Shane Mc Gorry was pulled down in possession. Shercock were not giving out without a fight and Brain Hamilton and Cathal Reilly added two points for them.
With time running out the crowd were again on their toes when substitute Stephen Donnery shot to the net to set up a grandstand finish. Substitute Sean Smith shot over from a difficult angle out on the left and the last word went again to the man of the match when Keith Fannin shot over his eleventh point.

19/7 Fannin shines in Bunnoe
Division 2 League Drung 1 - 06 Drumgoon 0 - 13
Drung had Drumgoon as visitors in Bunnoe on Wednesday evening last and after an entertaining encounter, Drumgoon deservedly ran out as winners. The real difference between the two sides was a virtuoso performance from full forward Keith Fannin, who scored 9 points during the game, several from near impossible angles. Drumgoon got on the scoreboard first when Keith Fannin pointed from a free, after Jim Mc Nally was fouled. Keith added two more points from play before the corner forward Paddy Mc Entee shot over Drung's first score. Drung were trying hard at this stage but an inform Adrian Crosson kept attack after attack at bay. Pauric Mc Gorry shot over a good point for Drumgoon and Drung replied through Shane O' Rourke. A strong forward run by Jim Mc Nally resulted in another score for Drumgoon and Drung replied through Paul Heuston to leave the scores 5 points to 4 in Drumgoon's favour at half time. In the second half Keith Fannin started off where he had left off and shot over a brilliant point from way on the left. He added two more points from play Dean Hand raced through and shot over. An injury to influential midfielder Ciaran Galligan resulted in Drung loosing the midfield battle. Sean Smith got on the scoreboard for Drumgoon and then Drung staged a comeback when Paddy Mc Entee converted a well taken penalty. Shane O' Rourke got what proved to be Drung's last score as the effervescent Keith Fannin then shot over 3 unanswered points to leave Drumgoon running out deserving winners.

12/6/2009, First round of Intermediate Championship
Drumgoon 0 - 13 Ballymachugh 1 - 07
Drumgoon just edged out a gallant Ballymachugh side in the first round of the Intermediate championship in Stradone on Friday evening last. Drumgoon started the brighter side, and soon ran into an early lead after a good move on the left started by Keith Fannin, was finished b Adrian Crosson. In the next attack, the youthful Dean Hand was first to the ball, turned his man and was fouled. Paddy Mc Cabe coolly sent over the resultant free. Ballymachugh then got on the score board when Adrian Daly darted in the left and shot over.
Ballymachugh then drew level when full forward James Kiernan, fielded a high ball, rounded his man and shot over. The next Drumgoon attack resulted in a penalty, when Paddy Mc Cabe was brought down in the square. Up stepped Keith Fannin and he drove the ball low to the right, but the goalie, Paddy Baxter made a brilliant save and deflected the ball out for a fifty. With Jim Mc Nally and Michael Mc Donald getting the upper hand at midfield, Drumgoon were slowly getting on top and more pressure resulted in a free when Paul mc Enroe was dragged down after a good forward run, and Paddy Mc Cabe sent over the resultant free.
Keith Fannin was a constant thorn in Ballymachugh's side as he was sweeping up every ball and driving forward at every occasion possible. Keith now added two point some from play and one from a free, before Ballymachugh replied with another point from James Kiernan. Michael Mc Donald went on a strong run forward and shot over a beautiful long range point from out on the left. Ballymachugh then hit a purple patch and after Barry Kiernan took a well taken point, a good move from the Ballymachugh forwards ended up with Barry sending a rasper to the back of the net, giving the Drumgoon keeper no chance. This score send the East Cavan side into the lead for the first time.
However, the Drumgoon boys dug deep and after good work from Jim Mc Nally and Michael Hannon, Keith Fannin shot over two unanswered points to leave Drumgoon ahead by the narrowest of margins at half time. Drumgoon started the second half brightly and the fleet footed, Edward Gaffney stole forward to shoot over from out on the right. Another point from Paddy Mc Cabe after excellent fielding by Jim Mc Nally seem to set up Drumgoon for victory. However, Ballymachugh had other ideas and points from Padraig Galligan and Richard Fitzsimons Brought them right back into the game. When full forward James Kiernan shot over, we were back to a two point game.
Ballymachugh launched an attack and a 50 / 50 ball between Gerry Hughes and corner forward Stephen Baxter was bravely saved by Gerry and ended up going inches wide. This save lifted the Drumgoon side and once again Paddy Mc Cabe was on hand to shoot over and leave the game safe for Drumgoon.
Best for Drumgoon Michael Murray, Paul Mc Enroe, Keith Fannin, Jim Mc Nally and Edward Gaffney.
Best for Ballymachugh Michael Halton, Padraig Sheridan, Barry Kiernan, James Kiernan and Brendan Mc Larney

Division 2 Shield Final Drumgoon 2 - 9 Lacken 2 -6

Drumgoon capture Division 2, Minor Shield Drumgoon minors had a good win over Lacken on Friday evening last, when they won the division 2, minor league title. In a well matched contest, Drumgoon ended the fitter team and deservedly captured the shield after scoring 3 unanswered points in the last 10 minutes. Lacken got off to the perfect start, when almost from their first attack C. Finnegan finished off a good move by shooting to the net, giving the Drumgoon keeper, no chance. Drumgoon made the perfect reply when after good work from Francis Mahon, Paul Daly was on hand to shoot side footed to the net. This score got the large crowd in the stand on the feet and Drumgoon ran into a two point lead when Ian Craddock shot over a brilliant long range point, followed closely by a similar effort from Aogan Farrell. Drumgoon went further ahead when Aogan was on target again, shooting over from a difficult angle way out on the right. Lacken got back into the game when Eoin Donohue slotted over two well taken frees.
With the Drumgoon defence playing very well especially the lightening fast Martin Fitzpatrick, who broke up attack after attack Drumgoon were slowly getting the upper hand. Martin found Ryan Harkin with a good ball and Ryan drove forward to find the cunning corner forward Dean Hand and when through one on one on the keeper, Dean made no mistake driving hard and low the bottom right hand corner of the net. Dean quickly added two more points and it looked at this stage that Drumgoon might run out easy winners. However Lacken had other ideas, and Eoin Donohue added two more frees to leave the scores 2 - 05 to 1 - 04 at half time in Drumgoons favour.
In the second half Dean Hand and Ryan Smith exchanged points before D. Mc Kiernan, fisted to the net for Lacken. A well taken free from S. Brady brought the sides level and the stage was set for an exciting second half. With both sides giving their all they cancelled each other out as both sets of defenders got on top of their opposite numbers. It was not until 10 minutes to go, that Drumgoon got their noses in front when Dylan Bates, shot over a well taken free from out on the right at the town side goals. This score gave Drumgoon the fillip they needed and after some high fielding from Ronan Mc Donald, Dean Hand shot over a free after being fouled going through on the left. Paul Daly then had the large crowd in good voice when after getting the first score for Drumgoon, he finished by getting the last one also and coolly slotted over from straight in front of the goals.
Lacken to their credit launched attack after attack on the Drumgoon defence, but well lead by Tommy Mc Kitterick they stood firm, and deservedly held out for the victory. County minor chairman, John Argue, presented the cup to the Drumgoon captain Francis Mahon. Francis thanked team trainers Martin Clerkin and Patrick Moynagh and Ray Mc Cormack for having the pitch in such good condition despite the recent inclement weather. Drumgoon 0 - 13 Cootehill 2 - 05
Drumgoon had Cootehill as visitors on Saturday evening last in Boyle Park and deservedly emerged victorious after a well fought encounter.

Drumgoon started the brighter and soon ran into an early lead through a free from Paddy Mc Cabe after good lead play from Paul Mc Enroe and Edward Gaffney. With Jim Mc Nally in top form at midfield Drumgoon piled on the pressure and Jim himself raced through to shoot over the bar. Drumgoon were now on top and after some electric play from the dynamic Keith Fannin, Keith cooly slotted over to extend Drumgoons's lead. Drumgoon were now 3 points ahead and looking good, but Cootehill to their credit rallied strongly and replied with points from Neill Kelly and Ciaran Fox. Keith Fannin struck a well taken point from the ground from 40 yards out on the left. Paddy Mc Cabe added a similar score from the right and Keith who was in tremendous form all evening struck over another points after good work from Edward Jackson and Adrian Crosson. With half time approaching Cootehill got back into the game through two points from Mark Mullen to leave the scores 0 - 06 to 0 - 04 in Drumgoon's favour at half time. Drumgoon came out strongly again in the second half and powerhouse displays from Edward Jackson and Paul Mc Enroe thwarted many Cootehill attacks. Drumgoon went further head though Paddy Mc Cabe, before Cootehill struck back through a well taken goal from Mark Mullen. Often goals win matches but on this evening this was not going to be the case. The goal galvanised Drumgoon into further effort and they were rewarded for their hard work rate through points from Shane Mc Gorry and Keith Fannin. The game was now being played with a championship fervour with no quarter being given or asked for. With both sets of supporters roaring on their respective side, the game was set up a heart stopping grandstand finish when substitute Dean Connolly burst through to shoot the net and make the sides level, for the first time in the game. In the dying minutes Cootehill missed a great chance to draw the game when the ball struck a post. Drumgoon to their credit never gave up and Jim Mc Nally swept the ball up the field to find Paddy Mc Cabe, who was in turn fouled going through. Paddy coolly slotted the ball over the bar to the delight of the home crowd.

Killinkere 1 - 07 Drumgoon 0 - 12
Drumgoon visited killinkere on sunday last for what turned out to be a well-contested acfl division two clash.
Drumgoon drive on by the brilliant Jim Mc Nally in midfield deservedly collected all 2 points. Drumgoon opted to play with the wind in the first half in a bid to hit the ground running but, instead, it was killinkere who started the brighter.
Ttwo frees from corner forward Brian Clarke saw the hosts take a two point lead in measured fashion before Patrick McCabe pointed a free to cut killinkdre's lead to just one. Soon afterwards. the east cavan side had an impressive point from Paul Kerr but drumgoon were equally energetic with Patrick Mc Cabe exchanging a point with Killinkere's Anthony Brady midway through the first half.
Drumgoon began to get the upper edge in terms of possession thanks maily to the high fielding and work rate of Jim McNally in the middle, and as the half moved on Drumgoon were invariably first to every breaking ball, hitting an impressive five unanswered points in the run up to the half time break, an interval which arrived at a timely juncture for Killinkere.
The good spell which Drumgoon hot seen scores from a superb left footed point from Michael mc Donald and saw Jim mc Nally, Adrian Crosson, John mc Donald and Edward Gaffney hit points to give drumgoon a three point lead. 0.7 to 0 4 at the interval.
Brian Clarke pegged back a point for Killinkere but Adrian Crosson quickly restored the visitors's three point advantage in double-quick time.
Both sides were finding conditions difficult and scores were kept at a minimum with Drumgoon's Paul Mc Enroe ably leading a rock solid defence. The breeze made it difficult to keep their shots on target, but midway through the second half, the effervescent James Clarke ran swiftly onto a breaking ball to shoot to the back of the net. James then followed up with a point to put Killinkere a point up with `10 minutes to go.
However their lead was short lived as supersub Pauric mc Gorry took it upon himself to grab the match by the scruff of the neck and stuck three superb successive points. Another crucial late score from John mc Donald served to leave drumgoon two point victors in the end, a deserving victory after an entertaining hard fought tussle.

Senior Football

A depleted Drumgoon Senior squad travelled to Terry Coyle Park on Saturday last in the Senior Division 2 League, and notwithstanding an impressive performance, particularly in the second half, were unable to overcome the home-team. With a number of players missing through injury, and the 'No County Players' rule in play, there are significant positives to be drawn for the overall display. The Seniors host Killeshandra on Boyle Park on Sunday next at 2pm, and should be close to full strength for that encounter and will look to build on the opening day win against Killinkere to kick-start the League campaign at home. Work with the reserve team continues, with a win against Killinkere in the opening match, and defeat to Redhills in the second round. The next match is away to Kildallon on Sunday 19th April at 2pm. Senior Training continues on Tuesday and Friday at 8pm on Boyle Park. Championship Focus As the evenings get longer and the temperature rises, the GAA focus starts to move towards Championship matters. For the Drumgoon Senior squad, an early engagement with West Cavan Gaels is scheduled, with Drumbride targeted to play the westerners on Easter Monday, 13th April at 7pm in Breffni Park. The early signs for the Drumgoon/Knockbride amalgamation are good, under the watchful eye of Team Manager Val Andrews and coach, Barry McLoughlin. Minors Focus After a difficult start in Division 2 with significant players missing through injury and absence, the Drumgoon minors have pieced together a string of good performances in recent weeks with a draw against the Killygarry/Denn combination and narrow losses to both Castlerahan and Crosserlough. With injuries improving and a number of players due to rejoin the panel in the coming weeks, the minors will be looking to piece together some form ahead of the championship.
Training continues at 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday at Boyle Park.
U16's in Action
The Drumgoon u16 squad commenced their League campaign this week with away tie with near neighbours Knockbride. The Voice of Drumgoon Éire Óg

Senior Team Scene – 2009

After an opening round victory away at a difficult Killinkere venue, our senior squad slipped  to 3 consective defeats to Cavan Gaels, Kingscourt and Killeshandra in the early part of the Division 2 league, before building a steady but creditable run of 8 back to back wins and a disputed draw against Drumalee in the League, to secure the clubs third consecutive top 3 finish in Division 2.  Once again, the club lost out on promotion to Division 1, with Killeshandra gaining 2 points from their ‘no-contest’ with the suspended Cavan Gaels, to stretch clear of Drumgoon in the promotion race.

Drumgoon re-stated their intent in the League Semi-Final where a superb team performance secured an impressive 4 point victory over a talented Killeshandra team to set the club up for the League Final.

Drumgoon Éire Óg Senior Team 2009

The league final was plagued by poor weather conditions, and was eventually played on a good playing surface in O’Connell Park, Ballyconnell.  In truth, Drumgoon would need all players at ability to deal with an impressive and consistent Kingscourt team in the final.  However, notwithstanding a good opening 10 minutes, the loss of a player after 15 minutes meant that Drumgoon chased the game for long periods, and succumbed to the unbeaten Kingscourt Stars.

The Championship showed Drumgoon at their best, in their contest with another unbeaten team, Balieborough Shamrocks.  However, defeat to Drung in the group play-off meant that Drumgoon failed to make the Quarter Finals in 2009.

However, in a season that has witnessed  some significant personnel changes, especially in the forward line, and strong U21 performances this year, we can perhaps aspire to even better results in 2010.

Scór Competition 2009

2009 saw Drumgoon feature prominently again in the All County Scór competitions at Scór na nÓg agus Scór Sinsear categories.

Once again, the Laurels flowed to Drumgoon in the Senior Scór competition, where Patrick Shalvey, Michael Shalvey, Ena Clerkin and Geraldine Shalvey won their Regional qualifier to take a place in the County Final, where they pushed the winners right to the tape.  Not to be out-done, the Bard of Laroween, Sean McGorry brought his own creativity to the stage in the recitation category in the regional qualifiers.

Lá na gClub in Drumgoon

Drumgoon Éire Óg joined forces with the GAA Family worldwide on 12th May 2009 to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the establishment of the Association.

In an event packed and fun-filled day on which the rains abated and the sun shone, Boyle Park echoed to the sounds of young and old as ‘Green’ resounded to the ‘Clash of the Ash’ as both the Hurlers and Camógs took centre stage in the opening exhibition games.

The New facility on Boyle Park doubled as the Club Museum, and hosted a photographic exhibition of Drumgoon teams and moments down the years.

Meanwhile, Drumgoon’s active Club-School Link initiative ensured that the talents of our upcoming generation in Dernakesh would be on show, with an exhibition of Art, Creative Writing and Design going on display in the Club Rooms, overseen by Mary McMullen-Gaffney.

Cochrane Kilometer Race on Boyle Park

The day witnessed the inaugural Cochrane Kilometer, celebrating the athletic achievements of local renowned athlete, Jim Cochrane.  The race was won by Conor Moynagh, ahead of Tommy McKitterick and Killian Moynagh.  It was preceded by a lap of honour by Jim Cochrane, typically barefoot, accompanied by An Leas Uachtarán Comhairle Uladh, Aogán Farrell.

The event concluded with a highly entertaining game of Rounders, which saw the Ladies pitch their talents against the Gentlemen of the Club culminated in the Ladies securing the run that gave them victory in the now annual Rounders Challenge.

To those club members, mentors and volunteers who gave so freely of their time to ensure that Lá na gClub would be a success in Drumgoon……..Thank You.

Minor Campaign – Div 2 Shield Title

The Minor campaign kicked into life with in January with training under the direction of Martin Clerkin.  Plagued with injuries in the opening rounds of the League, the team struggled with a young team, and the loss of Francis Mahon, Conor Moynagh, Dean Hand and Aoghan Óg Farrell to early season injuries made life difficult.  However, May saw the squad back to full fitness, and impressive performances against Sliabh Glah Gaels (Killygarry/Denn) in the semi-final, and a hosted Final against a capable Lacken Team assured the Division 2 Minor shield would spend 2009 on Boyle Park.

The U16 squad set out their stall early in their league campaign, with an opening round victory over near neighbours Knockbride.  This was followed by impressive and comprehensive wins over Drumport (Drumlane/Templeport), Lavey, Cootehill, Belturbet and Shannon Gaels   with a blip against Ballinagh en route to their table topping performance in the League.

Underage Boys & Girls

At underage level, Drumgoon continues to perform strongly, competing in all age categories of the All County Football League.

Not to be out-done this season, the U14 girls graduated from last years Division 2 League title win, to contest this years Div 1 final in Breffni Park.  In a game that ebbed and flowed, Drumgoon had chances to win the honors, but on this occasion had to settle for the runner up position.  With their performances this season, this group of girls promise a bright future for ladies football in Drumgoon.

U13 & U12 competitions

At u12 level, the Drumgoon Boys and Girls, both graduated to the league Semi-final stages in Division 2, with impressive wins over Cootehill, Shercock, Killinkere, and Lavey.  Again in somewhat controversial circumstances which saw the semi final refixed and Drumgoon sent to the wrong pitch by the county Board, the team lost out narrowly to a Swanlinbar/Corlough combination.

Cubanna na nÓg – The Young Gaels

At development  level,  over 70 children under the age of 10 registered for the Young Gaels programme which ran to June 2009, with typically 40 children attending the Saturday training programmes, initially at Gallonray House and then on Boyle Park.

Under the watchful supervision of coach  Mary McMullen, this eager group of Under 10’s are progressively coming to terms with the rudiments and fundamentals of the sport…..and having fun as they do.

In November, 12 Coaches from Drumgoon qualified as Coaches in a Training Programme run by Peter Donnelly of Co. Board at Dernakesh NS.  Congratulations to C Farrell, M McMullen, A Brasil, N Shanley, P McBride, A McKitterick, D Mahon, A Crosson, B Bates, C Moynagh, M Murray, M Hannon, C Lennon.

Killian O’Connell Tournament  2009                    In  June,  Dernakesh  NS  once again retained  the Killian O’Connell Cup for U12 boys, defeating Knockbride in the  title event.

The U10 competition saw an exuberant performance by Dernakesh, St Michaels, Cootehill and Knockbride, in a round-robin tournament that saw Dernakesh and the combined Knockbride Schools contest the Mary Ann Sherry Cup final, with Knockbride edging the result with fine performances all round.

This years Killian O’Connell Shield competition was played in the Camogie Code, with a re-match of the Cumann na mBunscoil Camogie Final between Dernakesh NS and Kill NS.  In a thrilling encounter, Kill edged the result with a brace of second-half goals, to reverse the result of the County Final two weeks earlier.

2009 saw The Drumgoon Camogie Club enter a new era of games development, under the stewardship of Caroline Shalvey and Margaret McBride-McCabe.  The focus has been switched from Senior Games to youth development.   And under their guidance the U14 squad reached a Co.
