Muireaan Mc Dermott and Tersa Clerking added further points for Drumgoon to leave the score 1 - 10 to 1 - 04 at half time in Drumgoon's favour.
Ballyhaise started the second half with a flurry and had points from Collette Mc caul and Roisin Greenan. With Siobanh Mc Gorry and Aisling Mc Dermott the Drumgoon forwards were getting an ample supply of ball.

Intermediate Championship first round,
Drumgoon 1 - 10 Cootehill 0 - 08

In glorious sunshine in Breffni Park on sunday evening, Drumgoon deservedly emerged victorious over their fellow parishioners, in the proverbial game of two halves. In the first half, Cootehill dominated proceedings, while in the second half, it was Drumgoon's turn to dictate the game.
Cootehill were first off the mark though two frees from Colm Smith. Drumgoon launched attack after attack, but were guilty of some bad wides, before Paddy Mc Cabe settled the nerves, with a well taken free. Points from Liam Sherlock and Shay Hawe sent Cootehill further ahead, before the move which brought Drumgoon back into the game. Michael Hannon dispossed Paul Mc Carney, raced through the full length of the field, before being taken down in the small square for a penalty. Keith Fannin stepped up and cooly sent Glen Nulty the wrong way. At the interval Cootehill were leading on a scoreline of 0 - 06 to 1 - 01. Drumgoon came out a different team in the second half. Points from Bryan Bates and the very influential Dean Hand brought them right back into the game. Dean was playing his first ever senior game and showed a maturity way beyond just gone 17 years of age.
With the Drumgoon defence now totally on top, attack after attack finally brought the frees. John Mc Donald pointed two long range frees from all of 50 yards way out on the right, to put Drumgoon ahead for the first time. Paul Mc Enroe, who had a tremendous game at centre half back, drove forward and found Paul Mc Cabe, and Paul duly slotted over. Edward Gaffney strong forward running was a constant thorn in Cootehill's side, and he found Keith Fannin to shoot over a delightful point. Jim Mc Nally drove forward and shot over to bring the large Drumgoon support to their feet. Paddy Mc Cabe shot over another point for Drumgoon while Colm Smith had a point for Cootehill from a free as the game fizzled out to its inevitable conclusion.

CELT REPORT
The formbook held firm at sun-soaked breffni park on sunday evening last when drumgoon overcame fellow parishioners cootehill celtic in a fractured opening round ifc clash. with most of the division two league table separating the sides ,the winners re-emphasised their superior pedigree this season even if it did emerge via a slow-to-ther boil precess. predictably, last weekend'clash was a truncated, bitty affair with referee martin brady tested to the full in keeping a lid on exchanges that bubbled to the brim under the evening sun. as things panned out, it was cootehill who ended up being badly burned and in danger of seeing their hopes go up in smoke. not that drumgoon set the famed arena alight last weekend. indeed, but for a timely converted penalty by county ace keith fannin just one minute from the interval, the eire og men might well have struggled to chisel out the required result. however against a cootehill side that insisted on running hot and cold, drumgoon were eventually afforded ample time, space and courtesy to engineer a way off the ropes to eventually land some killer, knock-out blows. cootehill epitomised their indifferent performance with their first half promise being replaced by a second half showing redolent of a team beset by incohesion, inconsistency and an innate dearth of leadership. in a game which was far more about perspiration than inspiration, drumgoon saved their best wine till last to leave their near-neighbours periously close to bowing out of the championship. cootehill looked up for the fray in the first half and matched their opponents blow for blow - often literally - as the game began at a hectic pace. but it was drumgoon who proved to be the greater stayers, the more experienced and easily the best at grinding out the scores. in that regard, it is a galling indictment of cootehill's forward play that the celts failed to score between the 35th minute and the 62nd minute. after their enthusiastic and feverish first half showing, few in the decent-sized crowd could have imagined that the hoops would score the first and last scores of the second half but none in between times. most matches are won in the second half so it was last sunday evening with drumgoon doing their very best work when it was most needed. both teams raced off the traps as if oblivious to the strength-sapping conditions and paddy mc cabe's chest-high shot from 18 metres after just 42 seconds fairly tested cootehill keeper nulty. mc cabe did open his side's scoring in the 12th minute but two converted frees from his first cousin colm smith in the ensuing six minutes eased the green and whites into the lead. fortune seemed to be on cootehill's side as they sought to embellish their bristling start and when brian sherlock's speculative 47 metre shot ended with the ball bouncing over the bar, drumgoon's fans must have feared the worst. a fine move in the 21st minute saw joh mc cutcheon and smith combine to put shay hawe through for a neat score which helped to propel the town team into a commancind 0-5 to 0-1 leads. it was all going so swimmingly for cootehill but then keith fannin was bundled over int the square in the 29th minute and when he put the diving nulty the wrong way, the colour of the garlands were already being re-altered. yet when damien sherlock extended cootehill's 0-6 to 1-1 interval lead with a fine point in the 35th minute, it appeared as if the crowd were in for a deja-vu experience. however drumgoon's supeior will-to-win slowly but surely began to shine through via their aggression at close quarters, thrir eagerness to run off the shoulder of their team-mate and their gung-ho teamwork. in contrast cootehill failed miserably to sustain their first half win and vigour with only barry mcgahan, david mc carney and john mc cutcheon consistently emerging from the maelstrom with ball in hand. the town team were much more reactive that than proactive on the restart and for all their hufffing and puffing in the second-half they never looked like doubling up on their first half dividend. gradually, drumgoon's running power and the heat conspired to sap cootehill's self-belief and energy. drumgoon were a transformed team in the second half as they seized on cootehill's increasing lethargy and lack of creativity and solidarity. bryan bates signalled a sea change in the tide by rifling over his team's first score from open play and from there to injury time, drumgoon proceeded to add eight points without reply, even the relocation of paul mc carney to the 40 and the positioning of brian sherlock to the edge of the square failed to alter matters for cootehill. the now-chasing celts looked leaden-legged and demoralised as dean hand and a john mc donald free saw drumgoon draw level with 44 minutes on the clock. from there to the finish there was only ever going to be one winner with another mc donlad free in the 46th minute giving drumgoon a lead they never looked like relinquishing.

Drumgoon 1 11 Ballymachugh 1 08
Drumgoon had Ballymachugh as visitors to Boyle Park on saturday evening last and deservedly collected both points after a keenly fought encounter.
Ballymachugh got off to the better start, and soon raced into an early lead through Jimmy Fitzsimons. Drumgoon were finding it difficult to get into their stride and shot several wides before opening their account through John Mc Donald. Philip Donohue was playing well for Ballymachugh and his shot came off the post and quickest to re-act was Adrian Daly who collected the ball and shot to the net. This score put Ballymachugh in the driving seat and another point by Alan Shields seen Ballymachugh go 5 points up. Drumgoon finally got the break they deserved when Paddy Mc Cabe broke through and drove low and hard at the keeper.
The ball was stopped but then rebounded off a defender to finish in the net.. Jim Mc Nally was in tremendous form for the home side and an inspirational point from Jim from 50 metres out on the left put Drumgoon ahead for the first time and got the large crowd in the stand on their feet. Ballymachugh struck back through Jimmy Fitzsimons followed by a tremendous strong run by Keith Fannin to leave the sides level again.
Approaching half time, Paul Mc Enroe broke up an attack and drove forward again and found Ronan Crosson, who shot over to leave Drumgoon ahead by one point at the break.

In the second half Ballymachugh fought with all their strength to try and retain their division 2 status, and were duly rewarded with points from Jimmy Fitzsimons. Drumgoon started to dominate in midfield and with Jim Mc Nally dominating the sector. Drumgoon pressure resulted in points from Keith Fannin and Paddy Mc Cabe. Tempers began to fray in the game and the referee had to issue several yellow cards. The coolest man on the pitch John Mc Donald cooly slotted over two frees to give Drumgoon some breathing space. Ballymachugh fought to the end and had another point from James Kiernan but Drumgoon had the last word when Pauric Mc Gorry shot over a good long range point to bring the loudest cheer of the evening from the stand. Ballymachugh will be disappointed not to get something from the game, but Drumgoon will be happy with the result as they started the game without 6 regulars, who should all become available for selection again in the next few weeks.

Drumgoon 4 - 06 Knockbride 2 - 08
Drumgoon travelled to Knockbride on Sunday evening last and duly collected both points. The inclement weather led to a stop, start game, and a hurricane blowing towards the canningstown goal end, led to the proverbial game of two halves. The first decisive moment in the game was when Drumgoon won the toss and team captain Adrian Crosson elected to play with the wind in the first half. With the wind on their backs, Drumgoon soon got in front when towering full forward won a good ball and cooly slotted over. Paul Mc Cabe raced out in front of his marker to win good possession and from the resulting movement John Mc Donald poked the ball to the net.
The scoring then dried up for 10 minutes while both defences cancelled out each other out. One exception was Keith Fannin who twice intercepted good attacks and drove forward to shoot over from long range despite the swirling wind. Knockbride finally got on the scoreboard when Naill Reilly shot over followed quickly by a good shot from a difficult angle. Another Knockbride attack resulted in a point from Larry Reilly, to leave only 3 points between the two sides.
With Jim Mc Nally getting on top in the midlle a Drumgoon attack resulted in Paul Mc Cabe being fouled in the square and referee Packie Smith awarded a penalty. Keith Fannin gave Ronan Keaskin no chance, as he coolly slotted home. Direct from the kick out Michael Mc Donald fielded very well and drove a long high ball into the danger area. John Mc Donald rose the highest turned and drove a pile driver to the net.

This score left Drumgoon with a comfortable 2 - 4 to 0 - 03 lead at half time. Knockbride started the second half with a flourish, but it was Drumgoon that got the perfect start. Paul Mc Enroe was proving a pillar of strength, at centre half back for Drumgoon. Paul cleverly broke up a Drumgoon attack and found an in form Keith Fannin who drove up the field and found that man again John Mc Donald and John drove the ball low and hard to the net. Knockbride did stage a good comeback after that killer blow and points from Niall Reilly were followed by a goal from Larry Reilly after a mix up in the Drumgoon goal.
With time running out Knockbride did get another goal when Darragh Smith ran onto an incoming ball and punched to the net, to set up a grandstand finish. However, Drumgoon deservedly held out to collect both points

Drumgoon 1 - 09 Shercock 0 – 09
Drumgoon had Shercock as visitors to Boyle Park, on Friday evening last and deservedly emerged as winners after an enthralling battle.
The game was in the balance until the last 10 minutes when Drumgoon finally got on top. Shercock were really fired up for this game and played with great courage and conviction. The first half was very keenly contested and neither side could pull far ahead. Shercock were first on the scoreboard through John Mc Enroe with a well taken point. Adrian Crosson drew a free for Drumgoon and John Mc Donald coolly slotted over the resultant free. Shercock replied through John Mc Gee and went further ahead through Michael Reilly.
Towering midfielder Michael Mc Donald then sent over from all of 50 yards out. Drumgoon drew level again when John Mc Donald shot over. Shercock then hit a purple patch and went ahead through 3 unanswered points from the flying Paddy Mc Phillips. Drumgoon slowly fought their way back into the game with two frees sent over by Paddy Mc Cabe and. Gary Smith replied for Shercock to leave the scores 6 to 5 in shercock's favour at half time. Drumgoon came out stronger in the second half and soon drew level with a point from Paddy Mc Cabe. Shercock replied with a point from Michael Reilly.
With Edward Jackson and Paul Mc Enroe starring in the Drumgoon defence Shercock found it hard to make the beak through. Keith Fannin drove hard out of the Drumgoon defence covering acres of ground and shot over two brilliant long range points to edge Drumgoon in front.

The large crowd were now on their toes as Ollie Ward drove over the bar to level things up again. Michael Mc Donald and Jim Mc Nally were starting to dominate in the middle and a long ball into the danger area was fielded by John Mc Donald and John turned and drove to the net from the narrowest of angles.
Drumgoon dominated the closing stages with Arian Crosson and Keith Fannin coming more and more into the game, but the Shercock defence led by Liam Reilly held out resolutely.
Shercock will be dis-appointed after a good hard working performance but Drumgoon will be happy to continue on their winning run.
